Chapter 11.
In a castle far north, one resembling a cancer in the body, an army resides.
A castle resembling a gothic church of another world. The stained glass gave the interior an undead feel, befitting for the monarch of this territory.
âMy lord, you have a message.â a knight fitted in dark violet armor walked into a grand hall with a small throne surrounded by beasts of different backgrounds all sharing one similar feature, glowing purple eyes.
âWho is it from, I'm so not in the mood to get upâ a child no older than 16, this castle and its inhabitants were ruled by a child.
âItâs from...â then the knight lost the ability to articulate his words properly, he couldnât speak the name mentioned in the letter.
âI see, what does he wantâ he expression changed as he realized the severity of the letter.
âThe lord as âŚrequested for your presence.â the knight continued as he couldnât hide his fear anymore.
Growls could be heard throughout the halls of the castle, the ones present were considered to be some of the most dangerous alive.
âI hate having to leave my chair, this better be importantâŚ.â before he could stand completely the knight cut in.
âSorry my lord but it doesnât say you should appear in his domain, your presence is needed in the land of madness.â
âOhâŚâhe said with a grin so wide it threatened to tear his skin. âI see what the emperor wants, tell those creatures to take care of my pets while weâre away, weâre about to enjoy chaosâ
âWe? My lord, I'm not sure if my presence is required.â he said as he turned to look at a cracked shield worn out by countless battles hanging above the wing of a golden dragon, unfazed by time.
âDonât worry Bazgar, those wereâŚdifferent times. I made sure to drive dragons into extinction." he said boastfully as he got up leaping from one beast to another. âOr have you forgotten who I am?â
âNo sir, Lord Selzer, Sin of GLUTTNEY.â
â------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
âErr Frey, whoâs the blondie?â
Back in the academy, things werenât going as expected.
Only 3 hours remained until the first promotion exams and Freyâs team met with a few issues.
âWhat do you mean i canât use it, itâs my last name too!!!â
âSorry sir but it has already been registered.â The clerc said calmly, this wasnât the first time he was having this specific conversation with anyone and it certainly wouldnât be the last.
âSo then, how many are on that team?â Frey asked as he tried to calm his temper, clearly not working.
âIâm sorry, I cannot disclose that information. Youâll have to wait till the mission starts. You arenât considering joining them are you?â he asked, knowing the position Frey held.
âNo, I want to know the number of idiots that need a beatingâ he yelled as transparent fumes escaped his body raising the surrounding temperature before golden aura surged through the registration office sealing off Frey's heated rage.
As he left he looked at a holographic screen that displayed a countdown to the mission start.
3hrs 40mins 25sec.
It was a sought after event, second and third years could participate to gain more experience and recognition. For the first years, it was a mandatory exercise. Over 200 inducted but only 70 could continue. Each year two main missions are carried out to test the students. The first was an elimination event ,the second was a tournament type event.
âWe canât use my name Zephy, guess we have to think of something else.â Frey said as he walked in on her explaining the rules to Axel.
âI might have an ideaâ her voice was light, the tone of her voice was mesmerising, she wasnât as tall as those in front of her, compared to Zephirine she was short.
âErr frey, whoâs the blondie?â Axel said, wondering why she approached them. Due to the nature of Frey and Zephirineâs background no one ever approached them. Either they were overwhelmed by the sheer talent possessed by a single trio, utterly disgusted by Zephirineâs bloodline or afraid to be associated with the Starlight familyâs black star.
âHi, I'm Amanda. Nice to meet youâ her face beamed with joy, very weird for someone standing beside them. Her shoulder length hair looked like it created its own light. Golden eyes that looked like the sun itself. Her features were hard to mistake so why?
âYeah, the old man said we were going to be a team. Guess sheâs gonna be with us from now on, canât have her leaking secrets after.â he said as gave her a grin that sent chills down her spine.
âNo last name? Guess you are from the church.â Zephirine hated everything about her, their features were in direct contrast. Zephy had purple hair and eyes. Both manifesting as she awakened. She was about 170cm [5.5ft] tall, making her almost 10cm [3inc] taller.
âIâve heard stories about your bloodline, but something about them never sat right with me. Your aura feels pure, untainted by human attachments.â What Amanda said felt like a bullet to the leg for Zephy, her family was the rightful head of the church of light, even though none of them were born with the light affinity.
âThatâs enoughâŚâ Frey said as he felt the tension building before the new team could fully set in. âYou had an idea for the team name? Spit itâ
âSince they choose to avoid you, why not use it to your advantage. I suggest Team âŚBlackstar.â she couldnât hide it, that name felt wrong even if she chose to be by his side.
â...â â...â â...â
Shock. No one that wasnât from house Starlight had ever directly called Frey blackstar. He knew they said it behind his back but never expected someone that wasnât of a powerful background to say it to his face, especially not a church kid.
âI acceptâŚâ Axel said. âItâs about time they understood the meaning of that nameâ
âI secondâŚi donât like you milk head but Axel is right. Weâre in your command freyâ
âGuess I don't have a choice...Tharion would love this. Lets get our stuff ready, we have an exam to passâ
