Chapter 10
THE WORLD WAS NEVER KIND TO THOSE BORN WITHOUT TALENT.
HAVING AN AFFINITY COULD NOT GUARANTEE YOUR PRESENCE WOULD BE ACCEPTED.
THE NORMAL CLASSIFICATIONS OF HUMANS WERE KNOWN TO THE PUBLIC. AFFINITY USERS AND THE CORRUPT. LIFE WAS NEVER TRULY BLACK AND WHITE, THERE WAS ALWAYS A BIT OF GREY SOMEWHERE THAT BLURRED THE LINE FOR THOSE INVOLVED.
VESSELS, GIFTED AND AUGMENTED. THESE WERE THE GRAY AREAS IN OUR WORLD. EACH A PRODUCT OF SOMETHING GREAT.
THE GIFTED ARE SPECIAL ANOMALIES THAT POSSESS A CONNECTION TO THE WORLD POOL, BUT THEY HAVE NO CONNECTION TO ELEMENTAL AFFINITIES. THEY ARE HUMANS THAT HAVE THE ABILITIES TO RIVAL AWAKENS, THEY ARE THE PHYSICALLY GIFTED.
AUGMENTED ARE A SMALL GROUP OF EXPERIMENTS THAT WAS CARRIED OUT IN THE EARLY STAGES OF THE WAR. THEY POSSESS ELEMENTAL ABILITIES AKIN TO CURSED, TAINTED VERSIONS OF AN ELEMENT. THEY HAVE NO CONNECTION TO THE WORLD POOL.
VESSELS, THEY ARE HOSTS TO BEINGS THAT FAILED AT ASSENCION. WHEN AN APEX RANK BEING FAILS TO CREATE A TANGIBLE BOND TO THEIR AFFINITY AND ASSEND TO MYTHIC, THE PHYSICAL BODY IS DESTROYED AND THEIR ENERGY AND SOUL ARE FUSED TO FORM A NEXUS. EACH NEXUS IS SPECIAL. MOST VESSELS ARE NOT CHOSEN. MOST TAKE THE FULL FORM OF THE NEXUS, COMPLETE ASSIMILATION AND A FEW OVERWRITE THE SOUL INFORMATION.
With a deep breath Abraham looked at Frey and Zephirine.
âYou two are the vesselsâ
Unfazed, probably the best word to express their reaction to this news.
âWhy are you guys just sitting there, eating so calmly!!!. Say something!!â Axel yelled as the weight hit him more.
âCoolâ just one word. Frey could only mutter a word before continuing to feed on what looked like brown rice and a blue sauce.
âThis isnât as bad as youâre making it, my main question still stands though. Why was the water goddess after me, did my nexus steal her boyfriend or sum?" As much as she wanted to feel shocked, Zephirine was enjoying the new information Abraham dropped. She knew she was different, she thought she was weird. Now she knew it wasnât truly just her, the existential crisis Axel expected couldnât happen, especially not to her. She had long accepted she was just a being created to entertain someone else in a higher plane of existence.
âYeah, what was that. She sent waves of aura only we could feel, why lure us out if she was that powerful.â Frey asked, clearly frustrated as he remembered how quickly he was taken out in the confrontation.
âShe wasâŚâ his face showed great pain as he remembered her. âHannan was among the founders of the house Hydra. Thatâs all I can tell you for nowâ he sat down beside Axel as Frey started cleaning up after his meal.
âYou took control of me, how?â
âYOU DID WHATâ a new figure appeared from the shadows. Tall, pale dark skin, dark brown hair. Van Night. It wasnât noticeable before but his iris was moving. It was black but looked like it housed somethingâŚalive.
Abraham chuckled, avoiding eye contact with Night. âYou were listening?â
âFelt her presence as she was leaving, there was no point in pursuing so i came to the strongest unrestricted being present, turns out it was you, firefly.â
âI see, howâs surveillance, ghostface.â then they both burst into laughter.
Lord Starlight was a very casual man, Van Night looked like a very serious person. But it seemed like they went back, enough that they had nicknames for each other akin to close friends.
âYou performed possesion?â Van Night asked as he examined Zephirineâs body.
âTemporarly, mild imitation of shadow domainâ he replied.
âReveresed the properties of my technique to achieve a similar result, I expect nothing less from the master of the starlight technique. How did you output your powers without burning her though?â he said as he realised she only looked fatigued, no sign of burning, which was rare from fire based possession.
âStarlight. The line between light and fire. It wasn't as difficult as in the past.â he said as he looked at his son.
âWell then, Valerion is on his way. We need to find out how she got in without setting of the security systemsâ
The security bound to the academy was simple. No one could get in without access, without special procedures known only to the academy anyone above true master would be under a limiter throughout the duration of their stay and unidentified beings would set off runes placed all over the academy.
âA mole.â he finally spoke up. Frey had been keeping quiet, trying to analyse Van Nightâs shadows. He was taken aback when he realised his father had a nickname.
âSomeone on school grounds is against me and the alliance. Bloodborne said it when we met, the school is taking sides and the odds are against me.â His face was unusually calm for someone that knew his life was on the line.
âBloodborne? Raineâs kid?, iâll look into this for now layâŚâ
âNo can do, the first mission has been announced.â Grand Lord Valerion said as he walked into the room, he stood beside Van night and Abraham. He was a bit shorter than them due to the age difference, but his appearance made it look like they were both his sons.
In a matter of seconds the expressions of the kids changed. They were all thinking the same thing, THIS IS HAPPENING WAY TO FAST.
âWe just got word from the high council, thereâs no time to waste. We need you guys to be prepared for the war as soon as possibleâŚâ his expression darkened as he looked at the elders in the room. âThey are getting involved, itâs no longer territorial . Estimated 5 years before a full scale invasion, no one will survive if they arenât ready before then.â
