Fallout

Chapter 6: Fallout. Sore from their encounter with the second year reaper squad, Frey, Axel and Zephirine sat in the auditorium with about a hundred more students, all waiting for one man. “Greetings young blood, I apologize for the delay, may we begin?” the old timer said as he scanned across the area, assessing the levels of each of them simultaneously. ‘200 first years inducted, 120 remaining, 40 missing, 20 dismissed, 10 withdrawn, 10 impromptu promotions, 115 currently present. Splendid.’ he thought as he worn a discontent smile. In the few months they had been here, the true number of attendees were only known by those deemed worthy among the staff. To avoid any unprecedented events, the students were split in 4 sectors, each with 50 of them. Each sector was further divided in two. “Many of you may know my story as the Phoenix, some may know me as the former head of the Starlight family. I would like to formally introduce myself to you all, my name is Lord Azazel Valerion, advisor to the council of elders but more importantly, current headmaster of this fine institution.” He said with pride. Silence. Not because they didn’t hear his words. It was because they didn’t know what to say. For almost 4 months they had been attending classes, training with peers, living their young adult lives to the fullest, without ever knowing anything regarding what exactly they were meant to be doing. Most of information they got was vague, it seemed to be a tradition. But what was certain was their first mission was around the corner. “Took him long enough” Frey said as he watched his closest relative feed his enormous ego even more. “ehh?!, you knew?!” Those were the only words Zephy could utter . “ohh…., I shouldn’t have said that.” Whispered as he remembered she was a big fan of lord Valerion, meaning she was part of a very small number of new generation mages that knew anything about him. Axel looked unaffected by everything happening around him, he was in between Zephirine and Frey and his build was enough to create a bridge stopping her from strangling Frey. “Shit” he muttered under his breath as his eyes widened as the realization hit. “You might already know most of the rules but I need you to understand, the rules to be given to you are a necessity if you want to upgrade your class.” His expression turned serious as he made a 130 degree turn looking at the auras that were bottle-necked from birth. ‘children of this world have been cursed from birth. How they live is determined from that curse. A small portion of them were born without the ability to access the world pool, some couldn’t use their full potential no matter how hard they tried.’ /ding/ /ding/ /ding/ The sound of multiple notifications echoed throughout the hall, most were eager to see what the system had just dropped, others couldn’t care less. But they all shared the same expression as they looked at the system’s window. /system interfaced updated/ /mission report: ???/ /mission description: ???/ /mission severity:???/ /time to mission: n\a/ ‘guess some expected it.’ Lord Valerion thought as most of them weren’t as shocked as he expected. The truth was the shock was just too much for most of them to process, leading to the delayed reactions. “time for the prep rules before the main event time is released, yo—“ \SWOOSH/ Then something passed by, faster than the untrained eye could track, interrupting Valerion. “I wonder if I’m still allowed to attend these gatherings, Azazel?” Then with a grin, the hologram from entrance day looked at the students. “How rude of you to cut me off mid-sentence, very improper. You should have better manners, Valis.” Visibly annoyed by getting cut off, he walked to the side, bracing for the show that was about to take place. “You guys were told to gather here, but you weren’t told why. This is the introduction event, you’ll get a chance to meet some of the best of the best across history, those still alive and willing to speak to children of course” We then see an overly excited Zephirine, ready to explode in her seat. Frey was the least affected by the revelation, seeing as he had seen most of the battle veterans, a large majority hated him more than they hated the demon emperor. The hall broke out of the previous shock, 60 percent of them were regular people that wanted to make a name for themselves, so this was a once in a lifetime opportunity they couldn’t pass up. “Ahem” Valerion sounded trying to remind him to get to the point. “Ahh yes, I haven’t introduced myself. This holographic form is one of my many techniques as a light mage. I am Valis Lux, and I am the only tier 9 light mage on the face of the planet.” He said boastfully. ‘Bastard’ ‘amazing’ ‘did he really need to say that’ ‘wth’ ‘I’m in the same hall as a legend’ Those were the most thought of throughout the gathering. “You’ve seen mages that dominate in elemental offence and strategic defence, time to meet other types of warriors. Mr.Night?” he said looking directly at the students' entry way. /sss/ A small shrill was heard before a dark silhouette appeared walking calmly, unbothered by the fact it was pitch black in a room adorned with light runes. As the figure walked towards the stage, the veil of darkness slowly descended covering only his feet, like living darkness. “It's not very polite to creep on children Mr.night.” Valis retorted as he backed away swiftly, as if avoiding the darkness. “I only intended on speaking with a few of them, Lord Valerian” he said as he bowed. As he turned to the crowd, “I am Victor Night, head of the recon division of Terravorn. It is an honour to see the future of our kingdoms.” He stated as everyone tried to assess his features. FREY’S POV: ‘He is unusually pale, about 180cm, dark brown hair with white streaks running through. His build is relatively light for recon, an assassin maybe ’ I thought analysing every visible detail about the man present. ‘He’s wearing an eyepatch, a few scars on his face. One is deep, very deep. Might be related to the lost his eye.’ I then looked at the dark fog-like thing at his feet, it seemed… alive. That couldn’t possibly be normal. ‘It isn't outputting aura, but I’m sure that thing is composed of aura. But what affinity is that?’ ‘It couldn’t be a corruption, else the old man wouldn’t call him out’ I thought of trying to contact old man V, but he was the one coordinating this…whatever this gathering was. ‘I’ll just ask him later’
