Chapter 6

Everything Goes Wrong

“I've studied magic far longer than your last three lifetimes combined, this cannot work.” Aby complained as Tink fluttered about trying to draw a magic circle in a forest clearing. “Shut up and do it, what do you know about pixie magic?” Tink snapped as she carefully drew a rune in the earth, “Demon magic, fairy magic, elven magic, what's the difference, they're all magic in the end." Aby retorted while staring at her intensely, “This is going to be something that you've never seen before,” Tink replied, not taking her attention off what she was doing, seeing her unwavering focus and a smile slowly forming on Aby's lips. “Where in Demora's hole did you even find this weird spell, what does it do?” Aby asked as he carefully channelled his essence into the circuit to charge it up while Tink worked on drawing the runes. “I found it in one of our archives, the elders must not know I borrowed it.” Tink replied as she drew while sticking out her tongue “You mean stole right?” “Whatever.” Soon the magic circle was complete on the surface and Aby completed the structure by channeling his essence through it in the manner Tink had drawn. The circle glowed in a deep purple light before sending a beam into the sky, “Is it supposed to do that?” Aby asked as he stared at the pillar of light. “I don't know.” Tink shook her head and Aby snapped to face her so fast his neck could break, “What do you mean you don't know?” “I really don't.” Tink said while rubbing her nose and looking at the light with curiosity. “Shit, by my unholy name.” Aby cursed before quickly placing his hand on the floor beside the magic circle in order to dismantle it but the next moment there was a blinding flash of light, followed by a temporary darkness. “What in my mother's name is that?” Aby groaned as he slowly tried to open his eyes, several black dots still danced in his vision but they cleared pretty quickly. “Tink, remind me never to trust fairy magic again, or more specifically any magic recommended by you?” He added as he turned to face her, then he suddenly froze. “Wait, is this what the magic was supposed to do, make you the same size as myself?” He suddenly asked as he saw Tink standing at pretty much his height level. “Wait, no that's wrong, the dimensions of everything else seems wrong.” He quickly added as he observed his surroundings, a sense of dread slowly seeping into him. “I'm the one that shrinked down to your size.” he said, Tink who had just started to return to her senses stared at him with a stunned expression, she rubbed her eyes twice as though unable to believe what she saw. “OH MY GODDD!!!!!” She suddenly gave a shrill scream that made Aby cover his ears “A mini Aby. This is so perfect.” She screamed and clapped as he circled around him like he was a unique exhibit. “Grrr...” Aby grumbled as he tried to mobilize his essence to break the spell but a newfound dread soon washed upon him, as though seeing his panicked expression, Tink pauses, “What's wrong?” “I can't mobilize my essence, or my mana, or my aura?” His eyes were wide, just short of panicking “Just calm down Aby, there must be a way to undo this.” Tink said placing a palm on his shoulder to assure him, Aby took in a deep breath and let out a sigh “Oh I remember, the spell was said to be temporary. So we can just wait it out, in the meantime how about you explore the world as a normal person.” Tink said, fluttering about excitedly leaving sparkles in her wake “Oh please, I'll just go find somewhere to stay till your weird curse wears off.” Aby grumbled as he began to walk off in a certain direction “How sad, you can't even fly.” Tink said before walking beside him, a wide smile plastered on her face For a split second Aby believed she planned this situation on purpose, but remembering her expression throughout the process he trusted his gut that there was no way she'd lie without him finding out, it was all just a silly coincidence that seems to be in her favour, he concluded. ... Some minutes later Aby could be seen running through the forest floor as fast as his tiny frame could allow while a relatively larger and hideous creature chased him, Tink flew around the furry creature sending beams of sparkling light which barely did much to slow it down. “Stay away from my Aby, you stinking little feline.” Tink shouted as he sent a beam of light which caused the cat's fur to grow excessively which hindered it vision causing it to lag temporarily “Firstly you looked for its trouble not me, secondly I do not belong to you or anyone else.” Aby shouted from the front as he ran “Better focus on running, it's not my fault you can't fly.” Aby yelled back at him as she tried to keep the cat distracted making it stumble, dizzy and confused but each spell not lasting long enough for Aby to get fully out of sight. “This is fully your fault for bringing that stupid spell in the first place.” Aby yelled back, he turned several times but was unable to shake off the cat which seemed adamant of getting him, luckily enough he soon found a small hole at the foot of a tree and without further thought he dived into it. Seeing this Tink followed after, leaving the cat meowing in frustration unable to catch its prey. Inside the hole dimly illuminated by Tink's glow Aby noticed it wasn't all that wide but it wasn't small either, felt almost like the burrow of a rodent. “I can't believe that I, the great Abyss, ruler of the underdark, conqueror of worlds and slayer of gods would one day run for my life from a mere mortal cat. I'll never forget this day.” Aby clenched his fist and ground his teeth “And I'll never forgive you either Tink, you'll definitely pay for this.” He added soon after, but Tink just giggled before bursting into laughter “But it was fun.” She said amid her laughter and Aby smiled, “Now that I think about it, that feeling isn't all that bad, it's been a very long time since I felt it.” He said placing his hand over his heart to feel it pounding heavily. Tink held her hands behind her back and stood on her toes so she could fully reach his eyes, “Yeah, I know, no need to thank me.” She said with a bright smile before suddenly turning away, her freckles glowing. “I'll check if we can leave now.” Aby said before moving to go outside but the moment he stepped out he heard a loud hissing sound and he dashed back inside colliding with Tink and falling upon her, causing her face to turn bright red and her freckles to glow even brighter. “Oh, I'm sorry.” He quickly got off her and and went to sit in a corner taking deep breaths to regulate his blood pressure as well as his emotions “It's strange to hear you apologize.” Tink said as she sat beside him “It's strange to see you so calm and composed.” Aby retorted while giving her a side eye “You know, it wouldn't be nice to be in here when your curse wears off.” “I know.” “But I'm going to take full advantage of you, while it's still on because I know I'll never get this chance again.” “What in my unholy name are you planning Tink?” “Why don't you find out?”
