Chapter 1

Garden Theft

Under the pale moonlight his crimson-gold eyes seemed to glow faintly, his pale skin carried a faint iridescent sheen and his small elegant curved horns seemed to absorb all the light that touched upon them. Dressed in dark, expensive fabrics, a tailored coat, half-unbuttoned silk shirt and a silver ring on his right index. His face almost painfully perfect, a forbidden beauty appearing quite feminine yet undeniably masculine with the expression of a noble who had long grown bored with eternity. His midnight black hair cascaded past his shoulders as he leaned on the wooden fence with his face in the direction of the sky despite his eyes being closed. A subtle scent of ozone, smoke and night-blooming flowers clung to him like a second skin. On his left shoulder sat a living spark of chaos, barely 5.5 inches tall with a lithe, delicate dancer's body. Her translucent wings shimmered in shifting shades of teal, pink and gold. She stared onward with an expression of indignation and an annoyed pout sat on her lightly tanned face which was dusted with faint glowing freckles. "Aby, you cheated. Absolutely not fair." She grumbled after a second of sulking "Don't blame me for your own inadequacies Tink, it's not my fault you're too small to compete fairly." He replied with a small smirk hanging on his lips. "You dare mock my size again, do you think I don't dare hit you?" Tink fluttered till she was just right above his face balling her tiny fist and trying to appear threatening but Aby just opened a single eye and smiled widely displaying a pair of fangs that gleamed under the moonlight "You can do whatever you want." He replied with a mocking smile "I hope you don't regret that statement." Tink's voice changed from outrage to one hiding deep mischief She placed her hand behind her back and began to circle about in the air with a starstruck expression, "I can't imagine how it would feel going to a certain someone's room right now and whispering sweet secrets into their dreams." Hearing this Aby's eyes snapped open and he stood taut, “You wouldn't dare.” he growled and the air around him turned icy. “Oh, would I? Maybe, maybe not. You'll never know” Tink giggled as she fluttered around rapidly, leaving tiny sparkles in her wake. Tink flies around his head muttering words only both of them could hear which managed to agitate Aby, he stretches his hand and tries to catch her several times but fails as she manages to slip through each time. "I swear by my unholy name Tink, if I catch you I'll make sure you regret this." Aby cursed as he waved his hands rapidly, failing to catch her each time. "How about we have a deal?" Tink said her hands akimbo floating just out of arms reach. "You enjoy playing with fire far too much for someone made of light, little spark." "Whatever you say big guy, well this afternoon I came across a garden somewhere down town and saw a flower I really liked but the fence is enchanted, help me steal it and we're even." Tink pointed in a direction while moving about animatedly, it was almost as though it was impossible for her to keep still for longer than a second. "You always remind me why I hate pixies, very annoying bundles of trouble." Aby snorted as he waved his hand and a tear appeared in the air. "You hate a lot of things Aby, I wonder how you live with so much hatred in you?" Tink pondered out loud as they both stepped into the tear which vanished as soon as they passed through. ... “Why do humans hoard beauty that was neither created by their hands or created for their pleasure?” Aby asked no one in particular as he leaned on the wall of the building while Tink fluttered around the garden, dashing from flower to flower caressing the glowing petals of each flower as though unwilling to let go of the entire garden. “They are greedy yet they wear the facade of the most just.” he snorted in disgust “Aby, come help me take the whole garden.” Tink suddenly appeared before him hyper-excited “And there's nothing more greedy than the fae, yet the demons are the only ones being condemned.” He glanced at Tink from the side of his eyes His words made Tink fold her arms over her chest and puff her cheeks, “Who asked your kind to be ugly?” “Excuse me?” Aby said with a playful smirk Tink's freckles glowed slightly as she blushed before dashing away "Just come help me steal the garden, these babies are too precious to be left in the hands of a human." "Don't push your luck too much, Tink.” “Alright, half of the garden and I swear on the eternal night, I won't say a word to anyone.” “A quarter of the garden and you'll make your oath.” “Two-thirds..." Tink raised two fingers up with a cheeky smile "I'll crush you." Aby glowered “Alright, three-eights is my final deal.” Tink pouted and Aby harrumphed before straightening up “I have zero idea why I didn't kill you when we first met and even more baffled how you managed to survive till now.” Aby mumbled under his breath as he waved his arms and parts of the garden began to be engulfed in darkness “Maybe because I'm too hot for you to murder in cold blood.” Tink made herself comfortable on his shoulder as he worked on transporting a part of the garden. “You wish.” He snorted in reply earning a giggle from Tink “Say, maybe I'm too cute.” “Youre just a tiny person with the delusion that it is capable of moving mountains.” Aby gave a snide remark which didn't affect Tink in any way. “At least I somehow end up getting the job done.” she clapped her tiny hands in glee as she saw the barren portion of the garden in front of her "But your chaos somehow makes the world feel a little less empty, this perhaps is why I tolerate you.” Aby said as he tried imagining the expression of the owner when they wake up the next morning to find a portion of their garden gone like it was never there.
