Chapter 2
NEW BONDS, NEW RIVALS.
The scene shifts rapidly, moving from the great coalition to a dark continent in a remote region of the world. The aura reeks of death and murderous intent. The once dark brown soil has been tainted with the blood of the beings that currently roam the lands.
In one of the few standing structures that closely resembles a 12th century gothic church, a few towering figures can be seen, all standing beside a throne. The being on the throne possesses very distinct features but all those features closely resemble that of a human.
The ground beneath them began to tremble as his demeanor changed, the sheer pressure of his aura was felt throughout his kingdom.
âI SEE, THIS MIGHT BE FUN.â
He said with a stoic voice, much calmer than the emotions his crimson red eyes conveyed.
`Few days pass after the binding vow was created, marking the beginning of project boundless`
A lady walks through a large hall decorated with artifacts from a time that very few remember, her steps swift and elegant, which betrayed her current state of mind. Head maid and current caretaker of Frey starlight, Lady Seraphina Ashveil had been taking care of Frey since he was born.
She used to be among a special taskforce that protected members of the royal families, until the day he was born.
âWhy would he choose to let him go, heâs just a 19â she murmured to herself. She was among the few against the boundless project, all because she didnât want what she saw to come true.
`Boom`
She jolted back to reality as she heard a loud collision, which came from the room she was going to. As she opened the door to the training room she saw Frey laying flat on the floor, complaining to himself as a man well over 200 stood before him.
âI told you kid, you canât beat meâ the old man said with a hearty laugh, his white beard and wrinkles completely contrasted his true age.
âWHAT DID YOU DO?!â She yelled as she saw Freyâs exposed skin covered in bruises.
âHeâll be fine, those scars would have built characterâ he said, referring to their bloodline's overpowered regenerative abilities.
âI wish he would just stay down though, the lad has more fight in him than me in my glory days.â He said as he looked at Frey with a sadistic smile.
âWhat the bloody fuck, so you did try to kill me?!â Frey said as he tried to hide his frustrated expression, obviously failing. âWhat would everyone say if they found out the great Lord Valerion was bullying a child, they would be appalledâ Frey said as he started thinking of ways to slander his great grandfatherâs image.
Seraphina was visibly confused at the relationship the two shared but she never questioned it. Why would she, apart from his father, only a few people cared about Frey and a smaller number loved him for his personality.
âOY!â Frey yelled trying to jolt her out of her mindscape.
âYou came for a reason right, or did you want to see the old man beat me one last timeâ he said as he glanced at old man Valerion, who was trying to hide his joy.
âWhat, no, I wanted to inform you that the carriage would be ready in a few minutes, so get readyâ she sounded deflated as he passed the information to Frey, something he noticed without looking at her.
With a wide grin he teased her, âyou sound sad to see me go, does this mean the ash fiefdomâs greatest warrior is like an eighteen year old boyâ he said as he walked calmly, getting close to her. With a swift swing she knocked Frey into the ground, knowing he was trying to get on her nerves.
âYou're very annoying, y'know, Iâve taken care of you since you were in diapersâ she said as she smirked, âand I still have pictures in case you want to run your mouthâ.
Frey walked away like the exchange never happened, waving them off as he left the arena,
âAll these years together and you still canât take a joke, Iâll fix that soon enoughâ he said with a smile.
âFor now Iâll go make a name for myself after I wash off the blood and dirt, canât be intimidating looking like this.â He said as the distance between them was getting larger.
As she looked at Valerion, she noticed the old man was genuinely happy, something that doesnât happen often.
âYouâre in a good mood, do you actually enjoy beating little boys?â
âeh? no itâs just his determination. I have to get ready, itâs going to be a long journey.â He said with a smile.
âThe trip to the project site or till heâs ready?â
âBothâ
The view shifts to a kingdom that looks to be made of pure obsidian, intricate runes carved in every part of the main palace.
In a room filled with three maidens, two of which dare not to look at the first. With a deep sigh the first and most important person in the room spoke.
âI need to prepare, he wonât take it easy on me if he finds out Iâm weaker than himâ she said in a regal tone, her voice so serene it was almost enchanting.
âMy princess, that lad wouldnât dare harm your precious image, would he?â one of the maids said as she put the finishing touches on the princessâs silver hair. The princess wanted to say something regarding the matter but chose to stay silent not to add more animosity to the most hated being of the royal palace, Frey starlight.
As she recollected on the reason he was a scum to house Frostfire she was interrupted as two guards walked in, with an autonomous voice they spoke in unison.
âThe time to leave has arrived princess, you are to leave immediately â
She sighed as she told the maids sheâd be back in a few months, and with that princess Selene Frostfire and her escort left for the project site.
After a few hours on the road she finally arrived at sunset to realize she was the last to get to the site, meaning they had been waiting for her for how long.
As all the candidates gathered staring at a barren wasteland the awkward silence was broken by a 2 meter tall young man with very distinct features.
âI have met a few of you but Iâm guessing weâre all here for the same reason right?â he asked, very skeptical as he looked at a certain pair.
The princess hadnât been there for up to an hour but her frustration was evident. The next person to speak was a girl dressed in dark purple robes adorned with gold patterns that closely resemble ancient runes.
âI might not be the only one who felt it but I think the place weâre meant to go is hidden behind a concealment barrierâ she said with a soft voice.
Frey then noticed something as he stood up from the boulder he rested on top, seeing as he was the second person to get to the site, the first being Axel Geadamas, son of the guild master of the silverforge guild.
âYou might be on to something, whatâs your name?â he asked, as he kept examining the large area of land before them.
âWha..em..my name i..is Zephirine Coltecâ she stuttered as she knew who just asked her name.
âColtec? Like the excommunicated family of the church, Coltec?â he asked, visibly confused but still looking for a weak spot in the barrier.
âY..ye..yes, that one.â She hid her face trying to avoid the gaze of the others, especially the princess who had a look of disgust on her face.
Frey smiled as he remembered stories his great grandfather told him of the great wizard that started the bloodline, Fredric Coltec.
The only human to become a necromancer.
